Renowned filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra secured the prestigious Best Director accolade for his gripping biopic drama ’12th Fail’ at the 69th Filmfare Awards.

This year’s illustrious award ceremony unfolded in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, where Chopra’s outstanding directorial skills took center stage. ’12th Fail,’ under his helm, delves into the lives of UPSC aspirants, narrating their stories based on real-life experiences. The film brilliantly captures the relentless struggles faced by millions of students navigating the challenges of the UPSC entrance exam.

In a stiff competition, Chopra emerged victorious, surpassing contenders such as Amit Rai (OMG 2), Atlee (Jawan), Karan Johar (Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani), Sandeep Reddy Vanga (Animal), and Siddharth Anand (Pathaan).

Vikrant Massey, who played a pivotal role in the film, received widespread acclaim for his performance. ’12th Fail’ not only secured the Best Director award but also clinched the coveted Best Actor (Critics) and Best Film honors at the awards ceremony.

Reflecting on his experience working on the film, Massey shared with ANI, “The movie is a very typical Vidhu Vinod Chopra movie, which is based on hard reality and is a very hard-hitting film. The role was very challenging. I had to lose weight and darken my skin.”

Released in theaters on October 27, ’12th Fail’ garnered praise from industry peers and celebrities such as Kamal Haasan, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Vicky Kaushal, Rishabh Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, Farhan Akhtar, and Anil Kapoor.
